Phrasal Verb GET OVER
Se puede traducir como:
recuperarse
sobreponerse
olvidar
salir de su asombro
¿Cómo es posible tantas traducciones tan diferentes? Vamos a ver unos ejemplos:
This is a serious injury and it will take you some time to get over it.
Es una lesión grave y te llevará algún tiempo para recuperarte.
It took him a long time to get over the loss of his house.
Tardó mucho tiempo en sobreponerse a la perdida de su casa.
OK, so you didn’t get the job. Get over it! Life goes on.
Vale, no te dieron el trabajo. ¡Olvídalo! La vida sigue.
Their house was surprising! I couldn’t get over the carpeting in the bathroom and the kitchen.
Su casa era sorprendente. No salí de mi asombro al ver la moqueta en el baño y la cocina.

get something over with = acabar con algo que no te gusta o quitarte lo de encima
If you have to go to the dentist, go. It’s better to get it over with now and stop thinking about it.
Si tienes que ir al dentista, vete. Es mejor acabar con ello (o “quitarte lo de encima”) y dejar de pensar en ello.
